Overview
The Volkswagen Beetle arrived in Australia in 1954 as a completely knocked-down (CKD) kit assembled at the Clayton plant in Victoria. Over 22 years of local production, the Beetle evolved from the 1100cc split-window era through to the 1600cc twin-port models of the 1970s, accumulating a loyal following among Australian motorists who valued its economy, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
